Structural Insights into Phycocyanin Langmuir–Blodgett Multilayers via Serial Femtosecond Crystallography with X-ray Free-Electron Laser

Crystals has published an article by Pechkova et Al on the use of Langmuir-Blodgett protein multilayers for research using serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) with X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs). The abstract reads “this study aimed to combine the intrinsic properties of Langmuir–Blodgett multilayers with advanced XFEL techniques at the Linac Coherent Light Source”.

Silson’s silicon nitride membranes (frame size 10 × 10 mm^2 and membrane size 5 × 5 mm^2 and 200nm thickness) were used as a substrate for depositing phycocyanin multilayers. The XFEL experiments were then conducted at the LCLS at SLAC
